To Take Or Not To Take Birth Control (Contraceptive) Pills
Talking to my friend about the persistence of HPV because I am still in precancerous stage after LLETZ and hysterectomy -- VaIN1. One of the reason that I highly suspect is the 20 years consumption of birth control pills. She questioned that the pills was not as safe as doctors have claimed. Let me put it this way, with all the knowledge I have now and go back in time, would I have given up the pills? Answer is NO. But I would have done something else.
First, VaIN is rare! So rare that even collecting all VaIN patients data couldn't form a valid statistic (yet).
Second, there is no proof. I suspect it only due to non-existence of all other possible factors in my case.
(See "3. Which cancers are caused by HPVs?" in
http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/HPV
and "6. How do oral contraceptives affect cervical cancer risk?" in
http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/oral-contraceptives)
Third, not everyone will get high-risked HPV. There are vaccines, pap smear test to prevent and detect the infection. There are many treatments for removing progressed HPV infection. In most cases, patients will get it removed once detected the CIN progressed from 1 to 2. In my case, I didn't see a gyno nor do the test since 1998. By the time CIN2 was detected on 2010, the CIN2 might have been with me for a few years already. I might also be able to stop the progression once I knew of the vaccine by visiting a gyno.
So why should anyone give up pills and suffer from the problems they ARE ALREADY having for something that MIGHT NOT happen? Remember, even if it happens, there are methods of tackling it.
