Democracy is a collection of the same selfish desire.

When each person votes, he vote for himself. Majority of people do not vote thinking what is best for the society as a whole in long term. Politicians gamble on what most people want and make promises accordingly without consider whether it is feasible. Their aim is the votes not the benefit of the society.

Democracy means lead by people. As long as people can involve and participate that contribute to such meaning. One man one vote is probably the laziest democratic system because all it takes is just that one vote and there's nothing else need to be done individually.
